This is #canlife, y'all. As solar powered, full-time RVers who restored a 1957 travel trailer and have traveled the continent since 2012, we use this blog to share resources, travel inspiration, opportunities to live more sustainably, give gear discounts, recipes, hacks and more. While you'll find plenty of that information here, check out our website at freedominacan.com for additional fun and resources.
Go Green this Holiday Season: Save Money, Save Energy & Save the Planet!
Do you have Greener Dreams for 2024? Traveling and living more sustainably was one of our major goals when we hit the road in Hamlet back in 2012. We were tired of high electric and propane bills, our mortgage, and all of the expenses necessary to maintain a traditional home. We wanted to figure out a way to travel that would allow us the freedom to live, travel, and work, but without the high price tag associated with owning a home. We found it...and we call it #canlife!
Along our journey, we've discovered some fantastic gear and services that have helped us live more sustainably, save a ton of money, and fit our tiny lifestyle. We became affiliates with some of these brands that are in line with our lifestyle goals and values to help spread the word about the great products and services they offer. These innovative companies are run by folks who love adventure as much as we do, with most being family-owned and/or started by women. Please use our links and promo codes below to enjoy special holiday discounts!

Ever have a love affair with a piece of camping gear? When we saw this grill advertised online, we had to give it a try. Over the past decade, we have tried at least 3 other portable grills, all with varying degrees of frustration. Sadly, most of them went into the recycling. Designed to pack away flat in a durable carrying case, this innovative grill is the perfect gift for those camp chefs who are big on taste but short on space! We make everything from pizza to paninis and brownies to Thanksgiving dinner with this bas ass lil' wood or charcoal fired grill. Learn more and save 10% off with this link and promo code "CANLIFE."
These collapsible, air-filled tubes fill the space between the ground and the bottom of your RV to reduce air exchange and that frigid wind that makes your floor so cold in the winter months. While we try to avoid cold weather as much as possible, it's not always in the cards for us. During our test in February in northern Michigan, we were pleasantly surprised at how much longer Hamlet stayed warm with these AirSkirts in place. With this additional insulation, you'll save a ton of money on energy bills in both cold and hot weather as well as prevent your RV plumbing from freezing! Do your knees, hips, or ankles hurt after a long hike or run? Don't just blame it on getting older, add some spring to your step with these carbon negative, recycled cork insoles for all of the adventure shoes you own -- a great way to add new life to an older pair of shoes, or make your new ones even more comfy without adding to landfill waste. We've been using new foot beds and love them in everything from our muck boots to our hiking and running shoes.

Just the other day, we searched on YouTube for “DIY solar.” Not surprisingly, hundreds, if not thousands, of results filled the screen, scroll after scroll after scroll – it never stopped. There is literally a ton of information out there, almost too much, but there isn’t exactly a comprehensive one-stop guide where everything can be easily found now and referenced again, later. Maybe you really like the way one woman put panels on the roof of her van. Maybe she explained things in a way that totally made sense to you; but she didn’t make any other videos on the charge controller, battery, or inverter. You find yourself overwhelmed, discouraged and frustrated, so it's easy to give up. We realize how hard it can be to find quality information that is presented in an easy-to-follow and digestible manner for the solar curious. We wrote this blog to specifically help you sail through the sea of information out there. We’ve been living mobile with solar since 2012, and have lear
